Henning Mediation is proud to support the Edward J. Henning Memorial Award, presented by the Dispute Resolution Section of the Atlanta Bar Association. Each year, the award recognizes one outstanding student from Georgia’s top law schools who demonstrates a strong commitment to excellence in dispute resolution. This year, we are pleased to recognize Brooke Raniere as the recipient representing the University of Georgia School of Law.
A Georgia native from Fayette County, Brooke completed both her undergraduate and legal studies at the University of Georgia. Throughout law school, she has distinguished herself academically and through meaningful involvement across campus. She serves as the Executive Managing Editor of the Journal of Intellectual Property Law, where her note was published in Volume 32, Issue 2. Brooke is also the former President of the Real Estate & Property Organization, a participant in the Mediation Clinic, a Dean’s Ambassador, and a member of the Honor Court.
Her experiences reflect a deep commitment to leadership, service, and thoughtful problem-solving, qualities that align closely with the values of effective dispute resolution.
Brooke’s perspective on mediation is both insightful and grounded in real-world experience. Through her work in the Mediation Clinic, she has seen firsthand how mediation impacts individuals navigating the legal system:
Mediation empowers people to have a hand in the outcome of their legal issue by allowing parties to discuss practical ideas and solutions. It can also help a person cathartically by having someone listen and emotionally understand their situation. Mediation is a tremendous net positive for the world.
She also highlights the important role mediation plays in creating a more accessible and equitable legal process, particularly for individuals without legal representation, by providing a forum for fair, constructive dialogue.
