Virtual Mediation, Arbitration & Training
Henning has been conducting secure video proceedings since 1999, before virtual ADR was an industry standard.
Seamless sessions from anywhere
We understand virtual ADR may not be everyone's first choice. With more than 30+ years of dispute resolution experience, Henning has developed a virtual mediation process designed to be just as effective, engaging, and resolution-focused as an in-person session. Our experienced mediators use proven techniques and technology to keep negotiations productive while offering the convenience and flexibility of a remote format.
How It Works
Once a virtual mediation is scheduled, you'll receive a Zoom invite by email. Click the link; any necessary software will be installed automatically. Android and iPhone users will be prompted to install the Zoom app.
Henning's virtual mediation platform is designed to provide the same professionalism, security, and convenience as an in-person session, allowing parties to participate from virtually anywhere while maintaining a structured and productive environment.
Each party is placed in their own private breakout room. Parties may speak privately with the mediator, join the main room for presentations and opening statements, or be moved to separate caucuses as needed. A Henning staff member is available throughout the session to provide technical support and ensure everything runs smoothly.
Signing Virtual Documents
SmallPDF
Recommended. Upload your document, add your signature, download it, and send it back. Works on any device. No account necessary.
Sign with SmallPDF ↗Built-in Device Tools
Also works. Most Mac, Windows, iPhone/iPad, and Android devices include built-in tools to sign or mark up documents. Many browsers (Chrome, Edge, Firefox) can also be used.
Print & Scan
Fallback. Print and sign the document, then scan it or take a clear photo with your phone and send it back.
Your day in court, fully digital
With courts working through backlogs, arbitration can get your case finalized now. Henning is fully equipped to conduct binding hearings by video. The protocols below supplement our Rules for Arbitration; counsel should share them, along with the Zoom invitation, with their clients, witnesses, and any retained court reporter.
Platform
All video arbitrations are conducted on Zoom. Counsel, parties, and witnesses in separate locations should download the free Zoom client and get comfortable with mute, hand-raise, and screen-share before the hearing.
System & Location
Each participant needs a device with camera and audio and a stable internet connection: headphones or earbuds help, and cell phones are discouraged. Set up in a private, quiet, well-lit space with a neutral background and the camera at eye level.
Logging On
Log on at least ten minutes before the announced start. Each day begins in a virtual Waiting Room; an HMA host moves you to the Main Session and your private Breakout Room before everyone joins the joint hearing room.
Professionalism
Conduct yourself as if in a courtroom: remain seated, speak toward the mic, and mute when not speaking. Only disclosed participants may be present, and all must be on camera. The hearing is confidential and may not be recorded by anyone.
Witnesses & Exhibits
Witnesses are sequestered in a Waiting or Breakout Room until called and during breaks, with no consulting people or off-record documents while testifying. Exhibits go to the arbitrator per the case management order; envelopes are marked “Direct” or “Cross,” and counsel may screen-share specific provisions.
Objections & Support
To object, raise your hand or use Zoom’s hand-raise; the arbitrator may move counsel and the court reporter to a separate room for bench conferences. If your connection drops, a phone number is given at the start, and an HMA staffer is on hand for technical support.
Live, interactive training via video
