Each year, the award recognizes one outstanding student from Georgia’s top law schools who demonstrates a commitment to excellence in dispute resolution. Among this year’s honorees is Anjali Patel, representing Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School.
Anjali brings a uniquely rich and inspiring background to the field of mediation. Before entering the legal profession, she spent over 20 years as an optometrist and clinic director, where she developed strong leadership and critical thinking skills while making a meaningful impact in her community. Her commitment to service extended beyond her practice, including outreach efforts providing eye care to underserved populations in places such as Honduras.
Motivated by a desire to expand her impact, Anjali made the bold decision to pursue a second career in law. During her time at Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School, she distinguished herself as a line editor for the AJMLS Law Review, a student ambassador, and an active member of both the Health Care Law Society and the Family Law Society. She also became a registered neutral in Georgia, an early step that reflects her clear dedication to dispute resolution.
Anjali’s perspective on mediation reflects both her professional experience and her commitment to helping others:
Mediation provides a personal journey to help clients resolve their disputes in a non-adversarial manner. The process helps preserve relationships by keeping matters confidential and allowing individuals to have more control over the final agreement.
